Project365 ~ Week 25

This picture is actually left over from last week but somehow I forgot to blog about it. This is a fabulous drink that they have at Ruby Tuesdays... it is sweet tea with crushed fresh blackberries... very refreshing! We have a chicken that is walking like a penguin. She has been like this for some time now. I was doing some reading on the Internet and someone suggested feeding her some yogurt.
So here I am trying to get her to eat some yogurt. When I first put it down she ignored it. I had to add some of her normal feed to it and then she realized she really liked the yogurt. As far as I can tell the yogurt didn't do anything but it was worth a try. This is how she should be walking...I took a picture of this chicken because she is starting to get some beautiful colored feathers around her neck. You may not be able to see it very well but she has orange and reddish colored feathers.
Two weeks ago one of our chickens decided she was going to sit in a box full of eggs and get herself some chicks. It takes about 21 days for the chick to hatch. Well this week I went in to collect eggs and I found that little miss broody was off the nest. So we brought the eggs inside and put them under a lamp. Now we will wait another week and see if we end up with any chicks or not.Mike and I have been enjoying Scrabble on Facebook. This, I think, is our 7th game. If you look at the words on the board you will see that we have 2 words down twice. I have never had that happen before. I put "lion" down one round and the next round the only thing I could do was put "lion" down again. Then one round Mike put "said" down and for my turn the only thing I could really put down was "said" This is my kitchen table. I am trying to get all the recipes I want to put in the church recipe book. I have a huge mess and I really want to get this recipe book done soon.
Mike has been working on splitting some wood that we have in the front yard from a tree that was cut down. He split this one open and found eggs... these are blue tailed skink eggs.
Mama skink is in the hole trying to collect her eggs again since they went all over the place when Mike split the log open. We actually picked them up and put them back in the hole for her. They felt really weird...they were squishy... I guess we were expecting them to have a hard shell like chicken eggs.
We got our free grilled chicken meal coupons from KFC so we stopped and enjoyed a completely free meal :-)
Be sure to check out Sara's blog and all the other Project 365 participants!

I have lots of questions...

..does it matter that the chicken is walking wrong?

..would the other chicken not come back to the nest? did she just get tired?

..what in the world is a blue tailed skink? is that a bird? from the picture it looked like a lizard tail in there or something?

great week!

Sarah - here are the answers to your questions...
1) it may not matter that the chicken is walking funny... if we knew everything was ok with her on the inside it wouldn't be a big deal but other people who have had chickens that walked this way found out it was a problem with her laying eggs.

2) the broody chicken might have come back... we waiting a little while and she wasnt back and we had to go to church so we made the decision to get them in the house and under the heat especially since we really didnt know how long she had been off the eggs.

3) a blue tailed skink is like a lizzard... their skin is shiny and their tail is bright blue

Thanks for photos, and Q & As!
Reminds me of childhood in Argentina when we had chickens.
